Essential oils

What are essential oils?

Essential oils: the force of mother nature

Essential oils are extremely old. Around 6.500 years ago people already knew how to make use of these oils. In the era when there were only flowers and plants, the essential oils were already used for different pains and conditions, as also skincare and certain rituals. Due to the therapeutic effect of these flowers or plants, they could be used as a medicine. Essential oils or essential oils are made from plants, trees, and flowers, each with its effect.

Nowadays we use little of these products because the shelves of the stores are filled with other products, mostly filled with synthetics. It’s beautiful to see that slowly the essential oils are winning more ground again in many households, but also during work days or while we exercise. These days we experience what these oils can do in our daily life and how we transformed our lives into healthy lives. This is what we want to share with others… How good is it, that society will use the products of mother earth again to live a more healthy life?

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are a product of mother nature. Young Living makes these oils through a special process and creates beautiful packaging. So we can use them for a lot of different purposes. Did you know that a lot of the oils also work for animals?

Essential oils are the life energy of plants. They are the aromatic liquids in lot’s of bushes, flowers, trees, roots and seeds. Now you might think that you can get these out of your own garden, but that’s not true. Essential oils are being retrieved by steam distillation or through compression. The oils are more then 100 to 10.0000 more distilled then the original plant.

There are big price differences between essential oils. This has to do with a number of things. Is it a pure essential oil? Essential oils are now offered in many places, but there is a big difference in quality. For example, many oils are offered that are not 100% natural and contain, for example, only 3 to 5% essential oil.

In addition, a price also has to do with whether few or many plants or flowers are needed to make this pure oil. Do you know how many lemons it takes to make a liter of lemon oil? 1500 to 3000 lemons! Now lemon oil and, for example, orange oil are one of the cheaper oils, because the peels of the oranges are a waste product of the juice industry. If you want to make a rose oil, you will soon need about 10 kilos of rose petals. 60 roses are needed for 1 drop of pure rose oil.

The difference between essential and vegetable oils

Vegetable oils, such as olive oil, are obtained from the oilier parts of a plant, such as the nuts, seeds and kernels. That kind of oil is usually very greasy.

Essential oils, on the other hand, are obtained from roots, bark, flowers, leaves, resin, etc. and are anything but greasy. In the world of essential oils, vegetable oils (olive, coconut, avocado, grape seed, etc.) are referred to as carrier oils, as they are often used to dilute the strength of therapeutic grade essential oils when applied to the skin.

The effect of essential oils

The chemical structure of the essential oils is such that they can quickly penetrate cell membranes, cross blood and tissue and improve cellular function. For example, the odor molecules of an oil reach the brain within 22 seconds, after 2 minutes the oil can be perceived as in the blood and after 20 minutes the molecules have reached every cell in the body. Within 20 minutes, the oil is absorbed into every cell in the body.

How are essential oils supposed to smell?

To the original scent of the species of plant. It is possible that you do not like the smell of all oils. In most oils we know, a lot of things have been added by companies to make it smell better. But then you no longer have 100% pure oil and it also affects the quality of the oil. Its therapeutic effect can be much less or even has no effect at all. A bottle often says pure essential oil, but this is not the case because they added things to it. At Young Living, we have the guarantee that the oils are 100% pure and are also well tested.

In which ways can you use essential oils?

The essential oils can work in several ways. An oil can work in a physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual way. Every oil has it’s own qualities and properties on different levels. That’s why you can use an oil in different ways to achieve differentgoals. You could use the oils aromatically, put it on your skin or digest it.

Aromatic

Aromatic

Smelling scent affects our bodies and our emotions. It stimulates the hormones and it influences the metabolism. Certain essential oils diffused into the air are highly invigorating, while others are more calming and soothing. In addition to the emotional benefits of aromatically diffusing essential oils (through a diffuser), they can also purify the air of unwanted odors and bacteria.
Did you know that you can also use essential, for example, to release blockages that have arisen over the years? With the help of AFT you can remove blockages and convert them into positive thoughts and feelings. You can read more about this on our Aroma Freedom Technique page

A diffuser

A diffuser is the fastest and easiest way to use essential oils. There are many different types of diffusers and it is very important to purchase the right diffuser. The type of diffuser you choose will depend on the specific purpose for which you want to use it. If you also want to use the diffuser to create a therapeutic effect, it is important to understand that just smelling an essential oil is not the same as the fact that it can have a healing effect. The Young Living cold water diffuser is of high quality and ensures that the chemical structure of the essential oil is not destroyed. This allows the oil to penetrate to the brain where it ends up in the limbic system. The area that manages emotions and sense of well-being. So this is something completely different from using an oil burner for a nice scent. It goes way beyond just the smell.
versus
Warmed or cold waterdamp Heating essential oils destroys the therapeutic effect. The Young Living diffuser creates a cold water vapor through ultrasonic vibrations, preserving the therapeutic effect of the oils. In addition, the diffusers from Young Living are made of medical plastic (pp5). This is important, as highly concentrated Citrus oils can dissolve poor-quality plastic, leaving you inhaling the harmful substances that are released. Young Living’s diffusers thus ensure optimal atomization of the essential oils for a pleasant scent and a good therapeutic effect.

Via the skin

In addition to aromatic uses, essential oils can also be applied to the skin to support the body physically and mentally. You can apply the oils directly to the skin, but it is advised to dilute the oils with a vegetable oil. Diluting does not mean that the effect decreases. In fact, by diluting, the essential oil is better absorbed by the skin and protects the skin from irritation. The easiest method is to mix essential oil with vegetable oil in a roller. Then roll on the affected area, on the corresponding VitaFlex point under your feet or on the chakras. We also use the oils a lot during the massages we provide. If you don’t have time for a massage, Young Living also has a range of massage oils. A real gift for yourself.

Ingesting

Young Living has oils that are so pure that some of them are also suitable for ingestion. For example via your drinking water or a self-filling capsule. In the autumn and winter, for example, we sometimes take a drop of thieves on a spoon of honey if we have a sore throat or if we feel the flu. Most Young Living products in Europe are subject to the Cosmetics Act, which means you should not ingest them. That’s why Young Living has released a special PLUS line for Europe that falls under Dietary Supplements. This PLUS line contains exactly the same oil as the normal line, only it is legally approved for intake. You can therefore safely take the PLUS oils in water, with a vegetable oil or in a capsule.
